西日本エリアを担当する電通西日本神戸支社のオフィス計画。

本計画地となる神戸旧居留地は、神戸市の中心部に位置し、海・土地・山の関係が都市形成に大きく影響した地域である。

南には神戸港、北には六甲山地が迫り、その間の限られた平地に都市が築かれた。
このため、都市は東西に伸びる細長いエリアとなり、旧居留地も海に近い埋立地に計画的に整備された。

1868年の神戸開港に伴い、外国人居留地として碁盤目状の街路と西洋建築が導入され、日本における近代都市の先駆けとなった。戦災や阪神・淡路大震災を経ても街区構造は維持され、現在では歴史的景観と現代的商業機能が融合する洗練された都市空間として再生している。

このように、海と山に挟まれた独自の地形、神戸開港以降の他国文化流入など、多様な要素がこの地を形成していることから“異なる存在が融合へ向かう場 = Abstract Place“を基本理念とし、ゾーニングでは、整然とした従来のオフィスに 均整を崩す配置を取り入れることで 、有機的な領域や境界を生成し、予期せぬ関係性、余白、コミュニケーションを誘発する空間を狙いとした。

また、神戸という場所でしか成立しないオリジナルの空間で働くことが重要とされる中、随所に点在している木壁は、アッシュ材の板目を用いて、混ざり合う表情として融合へ向かう姿勢を可視化すると同時に、多彩色調に展開することで神戸旧居留地が内包する歴史・文化・国際性といったの多様な要素を色として解釈させている。

人の動きに揺らぎを与え、偶発的な出会いや気づきへと繋がるワークプレイスを実現している。

An office design for the Dentsu West Japan Kobe Branch, the regional headquarters of Dentsu Group for Western Japan.

Located in the heart of Kobe, this project is based in Kobe’s former foreign settlement, where the urban development has been greatly influenced by the relationship between the sea, land, and mountains.

With Kobe Port to the south and the Rokko mountains rising to the north, the city was built on the limited flat land in between.
As a result, the city has a long, narrow shape stretching from east to west, and the former foreign settlement was systematically developed on reclaimed land located near the sea.

With the opening of Kobe Port in 1868, a gridded street layout and Western-style architecture were introduced as part of the foreign settlement, making it an early example of a modern city in Japan. The urban block structure has been preserved despite war damage and the Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake​, and it has been revitalized in recent years as a sophisticated urban space combining historical landscapes and modern commerce.

This area has thus been shaped by its unique topography nestled between sea and mountains and the influx of foreign cultures since the opening of Kobe Port, leading to the core design concept of "a place where different elements converge=Abstract Place." The zoning deliberately incorporates an unbalanced layout to disrupt the orderliness of conventional offices and to "generate organic zones and blurred boundaries," with the intention to serve as a catalyst for unexpected relationships, intentional voids, and communication.

Furthermore, to emphasize the importance of working in an original space that could only exist in Kobe, the blending textures of scattered wooden walls finished with ash wood grain serve to visualize the convergence of different elements. The varied color tones serve as an interpretation of the diverse elements of history, culture, and international character inherent in Kobe's former foreign settlement as a color spectrum.

The result is a dynamic workplace that introduces subtle fluctuations in circulation to foster spontaneous encounters and insights.
